Parties data clarification

I was trying to figure out how party information is added to court listener, and I searched the discussion board, and found this thread: #3368.

That thread mentions party information is limited, and generally only available "unless somebody has contributed the case to us".

Can you elaborate on what that means? For example, if someone purchases the indictment information, I assume that does not mean the party information would be available.

Well, perhaps I am answering my own questions, but I just experimented and went over to Pacer for a random case that I could not see party information on. As soon as I accessed the docket, and had my options based on what is showing below, the party info shows up in CourtListener pretty quickly.





So, I think the answer is "if someone looks at docket information in Pacer, clicks on the party information, and has the recap extension, the party information will then show in CL." ?!?!

Yep. That's mostly it, though somebody could contribute it in other ways too, like via the RECAP Fetch API.
