Why Was My GitHub Education Request Rejected Multiple Times?

Hi everyone,

I matched the name in my billing information and profile exactly with the name in the academic document I attached, but it still appears as an error. Why is this happening?

If your GitHub account is brand new, wait a few days before reapplying

If your school gave you an official email (e.g., [email protected]), use it.
GitHub will send a confirmation link to that email.
This is usually faster and easier than uploading documents.

And enable Two-factor authentication

• on settings ⇾ password and authentication
• Enable Two-factor authentication (use Google authentication or similar app and scan the QR)
• when active Two-factor authentication GitHub give 10 digits code save it or note it down

And check the name again

if still did not get apply tell the issue.

Hi @seunghochae22,

If you have filled in your billing information and GitHub profile with your full name exactly as it appears on your academic proof, try logging out and logging back into GitHub before reapplying, as for some reason the application system gets stuck in a loop even after the required information has been updated.

If you still get rejected, submit the application using another device, such as a smartphone or another PC.

If none of the above works, I recommend you contact support by opening a ticket here, select "Other" and explain your problem.

This usually happens because GitHub Education is very strict about matching the details in your application with your academic document and GitHub profile. A few things you can try:

Check your name format – Your profile name and the name on your academic document must match exactly (including order, middle name, capitalization, and spacing). Even small differences can cause rejection.

Avoid nicknames – If your GitHub profile has a nickname or shortened name, change it to your full legal name before reapplying.

Billing information – Make sure the name in billing (GitHub account → Billing settings) also matches the same format as your academic document.

Account age – Sometimes very new accounts are flagged. If your GitHub account was just created, wait a few weeks before applying again.

Resubmit with supporting docs – Upload a valid student ID, transcript, or any official academic document that clearly shows your full name and institution.

If everything matches perfectly and it still fails, I suggest opening a ticket directly with GitHub Education Support -->(https://support.github.com/contact)
