@janvorli You can build the repo, and then you can either run the test or manually run the scenario using the "stage 2". It looks like a bunch of tests are failing and probably just running something like dotnet new mstest may trigger the failure.

It was definitely intentional that now we can build key parts of WPF/WInforms/WD on all OSs. I wasn't aware that we were going to include the templates in all cases. However, we do include the WD SDK in all places so maybe it makes sense to do so. @ViktorHofer did the work to enable this so maybe he knows the motivation

We think that might be a defender issue, we added a retry to the task which helps but it still fails sometimes.

@dsplaisted @mmitche yes, the inclusion of winforms/wpf templates on all OSs was intentional. Before, we weren't able to build them on source-built SDKs which got fixed recently (by building a small part of the winforms/wpf/windowsdesktop repos on Unix). The templates are extremely small and including them removed one further difference. We can revert this if necessary though as it's not strictly needed.

@SimonZhao888 It looks like the mentioned properties should probably be removed from Version.props. I'm not really sure how it got in that state or what changed though.

It's probably an issue of us being in a transition from version.props to version.details.props for everything that's in the xml. Likely there are still PRs going in updating version.props which are bringing those back and it'll probably take a few weeks of manually removing them for it to settle down.

So, after much investigation, the dotnet new install --help command is returning exit code 127. There's a special case for this in our Program.cs. When running that command and debugging, I can see that it thinks that install is missing a required argument.
