DAY 2: Create your GitHub Profile 💡

Welcome back to 7 Days of GitHub — a series designed for anyone starting fresh, exploring new skills, or finding their place in tech.

Yesterday we answered the question What Is GitHub (and Why Do People Use It)? 🤔

Today, we’re shifting gears from “What is GitHub?” to “Who are you on GitHub?”

✅ Goal of the Day:

Set up your GitHub profile so others (and future you!) can get a sense of who you are and what you’re working on.

🧠 What You Should Know:

Your GitHub profile is your digital front door.

It tells people:

• What you’re learning or building
• What kind of work you’re interested in
• It tells others (and yourself) that you belong here, even if you’re just starting out

GitHub is used by millions of people — but profiles make it feel personal. Whether you’re here to explore open source, practice coding, or just figure out how things work, your profile is a space to say: “Hi, this is me.”

And the best part? You can start simple and, like Mona Lisa, build it up over time.

🛠️ Hands-On Challenge:

Step 1: Open your profile

• Go to github.com and log in.
• Click your profile picture (top-right) → Your profile

Step 2: Fill out the basics

• ✏️ Click Edit profile
• Add:
  • 📛 Name (or a username you’re comfortable with)
  • 💬 Bio — just a sentence or two (e.g., “Learning web dev. Love plants + puzzles.”)
  • 🌐 Optional: Your location (I personally recommend not being exact), website, or social links
  • 🖼️ A profile photo — doesn’t have to be your face. Could be a logo, drawing, or avatar.

Tip

You can update this anytime. Start where you are.

Step 3: Add a README to customize your profile
GitHub lets you create a special repository that displays a custom message right on your profile. Here’s how:

1. Go to github.com/new
2. Name the repo exactly like your username (e.g., sarto-j/sarto-j)
3. Make sure Add a README file is checked
4. Click Create repository

Now you can edit that README to say hello! Try writing:
👋 Hi, I’m [YOUR NAME]
I’m learning how to use GitHub — this is part of my 7 Days of GitHub journey!

I added in which side of software engineering I am focused in and also mentioned what I am starting to learn and focus on in the current time and made it formal but also feel more welcomeing to myself.

I created it because it was a thing that annoyed me... I always liked to be organized with my things, and it's no different when it comes to studying and reading. I keep notes of almost every course, video and book I consume, so I started to handle all my physical notes on Notion but the notes on kindle really annoyed me, especially when it comes to transfer it manually from kindle to Notion, so I figured some extensions to do that but none was good enough (at lest not the ones I tried), so I thought it's better build myself so I can make it my way and from that borns Kindle2Notion.

It's not done yet, and I do hope that more people come to use it, so I plan to figure out a way to ease the use so more people can solve their note-taking too.

Also, I am publishing on Google Web Store too.

p.s. I didn't know that you need to pay for "Actions"... and I just set up a snake...(
