I wanted to use this project, but saw it's fairly outdated, still using Go 1.9 and dep, so I quickly updated the project to Go 1.20 along with the move to modules. I also updated all dependencies to their latest versions, ran a benchmark and put the results in the README.md as well.
If you decide to accept the PR, I'll delete my fork, otherwise I'll let my repo up instead.
